Quick trip to Colosseum + Orange Garden

10:58 AM

Hello again !!

After a week of ups and downs, moments of pre-sickness (if there's a word for it), seminars and presentations of course that I couldn't miss the chance to not discover something meanwhile. As the title says it, in this post I will write about a quick trip to Colesseum and the Orange Garden. At first my idea was to go and visit only the Orange Garden that day but then a flash thought crossed my mind and as I checked the map I realized that these two attractions are not that far between and so I ended up with visiting two attractions in one day. Probably, this is one of the best advantages sometimes of living in Rome, that being able to find 2 or 3 attractions in the same spot and of course, the ability to travel around only by walking (if you're a scenery lover).
Hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed it and don't forget to follow me on Instagram for more updates. Kisses.

Let's staaart...

When we talk about holidays in Italy, usually we mean in Rome. And when someone comes to Rome, what’s the first thing they think of? The Roman Colosseum, the symbol of the Eternal City and of the whole of Italy. First of all I need to say that its original name was not Colosseum but rather Amphitheatre Flavio, having been constructed during the Flavian dynasty. It acquired the name Colosseum during the Middle Ages because of its close proximity to the Colossus of Nero, the enormous statue of Emperor Nero.
If you want to enjoy a really good time here I advice you to go in the first hours of a day (if it's week-end) and durring the day in the weeks. I visited it around 3 or 4 p.m. and it was slowly getting crowded, this making it harder to get a proper picture with no tourists in it. You can easily get to the location by using metro (the metro station is basically at the foot of Colosseum, no jokes).

Tip

 1. If you want to enjoy a free tour inside Colosseum you must be there on every first Sunday of the month. Basically there is a list of some museums which are also free on this very first Sunday.
2. Avoid paying extra for skipping the queue, it only takes 20 minutes to get in.
You're welcome.

From Colosseum all the way down on Via di San Gregorio to Circo Massimo, and then hiking on the hill way up we've finally arrived to Orange Garden, or Giardino Degli Aranci (Italian name).
If you want to experience a terrific, panoramic view and quiet in the same time, this is the place you must visit for sure!
It's the park in Aventine that has been named the most romantic garden in Rome. Here is where you can get a beautiful view of Rome over the Tiber River and take in the lovely fragrance of oranges. It's were the locals go to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset. The park is behind the ancient Basilica of Santa Sabina, and beside the Piazza Pietro d'Illiria. The church of Santa Sabina is also a great place to visit as the sunlight (or moonlight) appears through its windows.

It affords fantastic views of the many monuments, roof tops and domes of Rome, including St. peter's Basilica.

Don't miss walking through this beautiful garden. It's the perfect ending to any tour of the highlights of Rome.
